“Big Sweat” (Jimmy Nelson) out dueled “Yu-San” (Yu Darvish) Sunday in L.A. to secure a winning road trip for the Brewers, something they desperately needed, going 5-4 west of the Mississippi River for the last time this season, until they finish the 2017 regular season in St. Louis (and possibly the playoffs there after).
This west coast trip was indeed a roller coaster ride, with the Crew taking two from the Rockies, losing two to the Giants, and then taking two from the 90+ win Dodgers, who haven’t lost a series at home since early June to the Nationals.
In yesterdays win, Nelson went 6 and 2/3rds, giving up 4 hits while striking out 6, walking 2 and allowing just 2 runs. Nelson has been a Dodger killer so far this season with possible playoffs looming (positive subliminal suggestion), in 14 2/3rd innings he has only allowed the 2 runs and has struck out 17.
Dodger starter, Yu Darvish didn’t have an awful game, but gave up a few, extra base hits early, resulting in the 3 runs the Crew needed to take the series (“Bird Dog” Corey Knebel recorded both saves).
Attention now reverts to the 7 games the Brewers have left against the Central leading Cubs, but first, the Cardinals come to town for a 2 game set, followed by a 4 game visit by the East leading Nationals, before Craig Counsell’s team heads to Cincinnati and then to the Windy City.
Strap in Brewer fans, this is going to get crazy!
