After EVERY loss at Miller Park the song “Every Little Thing Is Going To Be Alright” by Bob Marley is played over the stadium loud speakers, and I’m sick of it! With their loss last night the Brewers have lost 13 of their last 14 and 16 of their last 19…maybe the song after each loss from here on end should be Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust”….or the infamous White Sox razz “Nah Nah Nah Hey Hey Goodbye” by Steam.
This is awful, and I hate to be this way, but, myself like a lot of Brewer fans are pissed off and frustrated. I’m sure the Brewer players are as well the only difference is that they are still getting paid, while the fans SPEND their own hard earned money to endure loss after loss.
Last night Brewer starting pitcher, Matt Garza “bugged out” of the locker room before we could talk to him…why?? Simply because he’s not going to say anything that hasn’t been said for the last three weeks, or maybe it’s because he wanted to “hold” his tongue on what he really wanted to say about the team and situation.
Manager Ron Roenicke in his press conference said flat out “I’m sick of coming in here and talking about another loss…it get’s old.” Well then maybe a change needs to be made, something to stir the pot.
An example of “something” could be what occurred in 1972 when then Tigers manager Billy Martin put his whole team in a hat and pulled out the batting order randomly. What led to that move was his first place Tigers hit the skids losing 10 of 14 in mid-August and weren’t scoring runs…sound familiar?? So he decided to pull his line up out of a hat having his his team bat in that order hoping it would spark something and loosen his them up. The Tigers won the game and went on to finish in first place in the American League East. It might be too late in the season for a stunt like that, with only 17 games left… but then again, it can’t hurt. Einstein said the definition of insanity “is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
Francisco Rodriguez who was collared for the loss giving up a 2 run homer to Casey McGehee with two out in the 9th and then another homer to the very next batter, Marcell Ozuna, looked completely broke down at his locker after the game. His tone was subdued and answered the first question with an expletive going on to say “disgusting, all the bad words you can describe it, extremely disappointed,” and ended with a long frustrated exhale.
I feel for these guys, to be in first place for 150 days, and now to be 6 games out as well as a game and a half out of the second wild card spot has to suck…but, they need to find a way to suck it up and win. Even if they don’t make the playoffs, go out WINNING, and let the chips fall where they may.
Even though it’s a football reference it rings true in this situation as well… Vince Lombardi was quoted once as saying “Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in awhile, you don’t do things right once in awhile, you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.” Right now the Brewers are on the latter end of that statement, but, don’t have to be… it could all start with tonight.
How about playing “I’m a Loser” by the Beatles after every loss.
