The Opening Ceremonies for the 2014 Winter Olympic in Sochi, Russia are this Friday (2/7/14), but, Men’s Hockey doesn’t start until the 12th. That’s when Milwaukee Admiral Simon Moser will hit the ice for his home country of Switzerland. He will try to helps them win their third ever medal in Men’s Olympic Hockey.
Moser is a seasoned International Player spending his formative years playing in and for Switzerland. Simon’s first year here in the States has been with our very own Milwaukee Admirals and so far, he has played well enough to get the call recently from the big boys in the NHL… the Nashville Predators.
The Swiss have seen only minimal success in the Olympics, coincidentally the only times they have medaled was in 1928, and ’48, when they scored Bronze in their home country, Switerzland at St. Moritz.
In the last three Olympics the Swiss finished 8th (2010), 6th (2006), and 11th (2002), and hope to turn things around in Sochi. The Swiss are in Group C along with, Sweden, The Czech Republic, and Latvia.
If you want to follow Simon and his country’s quest for a medal, here is the Swiss Schedule:
1st game 2/12/14 Switzerland vs Latvia
2nd game 2/14/14 Sweden vs Switzerland
3rd game 2/15/14 Switzerland vs The Czech Republic
Playoffs 2/18
Quarterfinals 2/19
Semi-finals 2/21
Bronze Medal Game 2/22
Gold Medal Game 2/23
I wish Simon the best, but there is only one chant in my book: U-S-A…U-S-A!
Check out the goalie…it looks like he has a visor for head protection. That is HARDCORE!
