What do Reggie Jackson, Geronimo Berroa, Jose Canseco, and now Josh Reddick have in common? They have all hit 3 homeruns in a single game as the A’s Right fielder.
Last night Reddick went yard three times in the A’s drudging of the Blue Jays in Toronto 14-6. Reddick who was hitless in his last 20 at-bats exploded for a round tripper in his first three art bats last night (8-9-13). The 5 year vet who broke in with the Red Sox in 2009, had his highest home run total last year with Oakland with 32. Reddick knocked out homer number six which was a solo shot in the 2nd, another solo shot in the 5th his first opposite field one of the year, and finally a 3 run blast in the 6th, giving him eight on the season.
The only other Oakland Right fielders to accomplish this feat were Reggie Jackson in 1969, Jose Canseco in 1988,
and Geronimo Berroa who did it twice in 1996. Jackson ended his campaign with 47, Canseco 46, and Berroa 36.
Reddick better start making multi-hr games a regularity in order to validate last years 32 home run total. In the three previous years he hit 2, 1, and 7 respectively…or Bud’s going come knocking on his door as well.
He must have taken a new cocktail his doctor prescribed.
