On Toronto

Make note hockey fans, because if on November 11th you feel the earth shake, it won’t be because of an earthquake, it will be because Badger Fans all over the world will be “Jumping Around” as one of their own is in Toronto Ontario.

Christos Kostas Tselios better know as Chris Chelios will be enshrined into the NHL Hall of Fame as the first Badger Alum to be so honored. Chelios who is from Chicago had “mad” hockey skills from early on, and had by far the most fulfilled as well as honored careers of all time. Chelios was a collegiate champion, 4 time Olympian, 11 time All-Star, and 3 time Stanley Cup Champion and those are just the tip of the iceberg, as his achievements are many…thus his nod into enshrinement and immortality.

Chelios went to UW-Madison where as a  Badger he was part of the 1983 team that won the NCAA Mens Hockey Championship. Was drafted in the 2nd round 40th overall by the Canadians where he played for 6 years, before moving on to the Blackhawks for 10, Red Wings for 11, and finally skated his record-tying 26th and final season in the NHL during the 2009-10 season with the Atlanta Thrashers… after 1,651 regular-season games and 1,917 total games, he finally hung up the skates at the age of 48.

Chelios has also drank from Lord Stanley’s Cup 3 times, with the third being with the Detroit in 2008 making him the oldest player to hoist the cup at 46 years 5 mos.

During his lustrous career he captained 3 of the 4 Olympic hockey teams he played on, winning silver in 2002 in Salt Lake. Along with Chelios, 4 others will be inducted in Toronto in the fall, Brendan Shanahan, Scott Niedermayer, Fred Shero and Geraldine Heaney round out the 2013 class.

Congratulation Chris you’ve made Bucky PROUD!
