Jean Segura, the Brewers, hopefully soon to be “All-Star” shortstop accomplished something Tuesday night (5-28-13) that only 2 other Brewers have in the 44 year history of the franchise…6 hits in a game!
Segura joined Johnny Briggs, and Kevin Reimer as the only other two Brewers to accomplish the feat in a Milwaukee uniform.
First, it was Briggs who got 6 hits in Cleveland on August 6th,1973…then 20 years later, Reimer did it in a 13 inning game at County Stadium against Oakland on August 24th, 1993.
Segura went 6 for 7 which included 2 runs, and a RBI in the Brewers 14 inning loss to the Twins (6-5). All 6 hits were singles, and raised Segura’s average to a league leading .365. He also leads the N.L. in hits (72), multi-hit games (23), tied for the lead in triples (5), while in the top 5 in stolen bases (tied for 2nd with 14), 2nd in total bases (112), and 4th in on-base percentage (.400).
Those numbers regardless of market size are All-Star worthy, and if Jean can keep it up, he should be the starting shortstop on July 18th when the Senior Circuit takes the field for the Mid-Summer Classic.
Raised his average 18 points unbelievable this far along in the season, keep it up you making the trade look very good.
No doubt. Brilliant trade. Lets see if we hang into him in the post.
Segura’s salary this year is 492,000…….Rickie Weeks is 11,000,000!
Too bad Jean, is not eligible for Rookie of the Year, because of the time he put in last season…
