Through the annuls of history there have been super hero duos, Batman and Robin, The Lone Ranger and Tonto, The Green Hornet and Kato, etc. The Milwaukee Brewers have “The Dynamic Dominican Duo”…Carlos Gomez, and Jean Segura!
Both Segura and Gomez forewent playing in this year’s WBC (World Baseball Classic) instead, they worked on their game during Spring Training, and it’s paying off.
*(The Dominican Republic won the WBC “Dominican Domination” previous article)
Jean Segura the Brewers rookie shortstop is having a “Rookie of the Year” season, and a great shot at a spot on the National League All-Star team. Segura who is second in the National League in batting average at .359, while committing just one error so far in the field.
Carlos Gomez, who is also from the Dominican Republic is the Brewers centerfielder. He too is having a career season, and jockeying for a spot on the Mid-Summer Classic, with his National League leading .371 batting average and .645 slugging percentage.
Back to Segura, he was just named N.L. Player of the week (for May 12th), he hit a National League-best .500 (10-for-20). His slugging percentage was .950, while his on-base percentage was .545. His 19 total bases were the third in the N.L. while his five runs scored and two stolen bases ranked tied for third and fourth, respectively. Segura also ripped three doubles and a pair of home runs.
Segura’s honors are just 3 weeks removed from Carlos Gomez receiving the same honor when he was named N.L. Player of the Week (4/21/13). During Gomez’s week, he also batted .500 (9-18), had a .944 slugging percentage, while collecting 17 total bases, along with 2 “round trippers” and 3 RBI.
In order for the Brewers to succeed in 2013 the ” Dynamic Dominican Duo” will have to stay super!
