In honor of the fact that pitchers and catchers reported to Spring Training today, and the full squads report later in the week, I feel it’s the perfect time to reveal my 10 favorite baseball movies of all time.
10.
(1994) “The Scout” with Albert Brooks and Brendan Fraser.
9.
(1992) “Mr. Baseball” Tom Selleck plays baseball in Japan.
8.
(2004) “Mr. 3000″ Bernie Mac as a Brewer, need I say more.
7.
(1984) “The Natural” Robert Redford every boys’ dream.
6.

5.
(1988) “Eight Men Out” History lesson, the 1919 “Black Sox” scandal.
4.

3.

2.
(1988) “Bull Durham” baseball is a religion.
And by far, hands down, my favorite movie is a HBO original starring William Peterson and Virginia Madison, “Long Gone”
The 1987 movie was about a Minor League Team (Tampico Stogies) playing ball in northern Florida in 1957. unfortunately this movie was made for HBO, and is extremely hard to find. Since ’87 (when I video taped it) I must’ve watched it 2 or 3 times a year, and before every Opening Day as my baseball ritual. It is by far my favorite baseball movie. The VHS tape started to wear, and just last year I was lucky enough to find a DVD copy on eBay…so I bought it, and the “Tampico Nine” will play on!

Great choice of movies, makes me start thinking of spring training
Wow…Field of Dreams didn’t make the cut!
